Outside of my window its a beautiful day I ought to go out for awhile Call up a friend, lean on a stranger I could sure use a smile On this beautiful day Beautiful day outside Mama called this morning but I didn’t answer Didn’t have the heart to say That I’ve been feeling kind of lonely Sometimes I get blue And mama’s try to make it all okay They want everyday to be a beautiful day Beautiful day outside Do you ever get lonely And wonder how much farther you can go Do you think you’re the only one who knows Friend I know I have seen darkness I’ve got shadows inside But I hold on for the light I have never known a sorrow that didn’t make me stronger There’s never been a day that the sun don’t rise And bring a beautiful day Beautiful day outside So hold on my friend No one sees clearly in the dark Even the longest nights are just the start Of a beautiful day Beautiful day Oh a beautiful day outside

Diamond 03:37
I used to know all the answers To all the questions weighing on my soul I used to call out to someone up above I never heard a word So I gave up Sometimes I feel like a diamond clear as the light Sometimes I feel like a miner left behind in the dark Nobody told me I could believe In a divine that lives within me You know it takes time to bury it with your mind It takes even more time To let it shine Sometimes I feel like a diamond clear as the light Sometimes I feel like a miner left behind in the dark So I called out just to see If anyone would answer me And I heard that sweet voice call from deep down inside Saying I’ve been here all this time To tell you that you’re already home You’re already home You’re already home Sometimes I feel like a diamond clear as the light Sometimes I feel like a miner left behind in the dark I used to know all the answers

I wake up every morning And I take it one step at a time And I face my days one breath at a time We are all one Together in this life That goes on and on One moment at a time Do we ever really know where we come from Or where we’re meant to be Exactly where we’re going Are we ever really free If I am you And you are me Sometimes all I’ve got Sometimes all I know Sometimes all that I can see Is what is right in front of me We are all one Together in this life That goes on and on One moment at a time

River 03:55
I’ve got something on my mind I’m gonna give it to the river I’ve got teardrops in my eyes I’m gonna give em to the river I’ve got stories in my bones want to be told Lay my burdens down and let em go River wash me whole Heaven ain’t up Hell ain’t below My feet are tired, lord they’re tired I’m gonna wash em in the river My tongue is burning it’s on fire I’m gonna fill my cup in the river I’ve got stories in my bones want to be told Lay my burdens down and let em go River wash me whole Heaven ain’t up Hell ain’t below We’ve gotta give a little, live with a little more love What if heaven ain’t waiting up above What if it’s right here If you don’t live your truth Hell will come find you I’m gonna raise my hands up high I’m gonna walk into the river I’m gonna let my voice rise I’m gonna sing out with the river I’ve got stories in my bones want to be told Lay my burdens down and let em go River wash me whole Heaven ain’t up Hell ain’t below We’ve gotta give a little, live with a little more love Show the world what you came here made of Follow your heart and free your soul Heaven ain’t up Hell ain’t below

Apple Trees 04:09
Seven years ago We planted seeds in a row Talked about getting old And watching them grow I dreamed of orchards and blueberry fields Back then all my dreams felt so real I thought that I knew my heart ’Til I tore yours apart Tore it all apart There are two young apple trees Standing alone in that field Keeping watch for the deer And listening to the loons I can still hear them too The fires that we made Like the bed where we laid Have grown cold with time There is hardly a trace Of the love that we made And the life that I thought would be mine I remember you walked all alone through the fields In the late afternoons Now the smell of cut grass Brings back the past And the man I never really knew There are two young apple trees Standing alone in that field Keeping watch for the deer And listening to the loons I can still hear them too I wonder why some seeds take root Others just die No matter how hard we try Like those two young apple trees Standing alone in that field Keeping watch for the deer And listening to the loons I can still hear them too

My mother was a fighter Born without a name of her own Bought and paid for by her daddy So he claimed She took off with the first man Headed out of town Didn’t worry about the good life Didn’t matter where he was bound ‘Cause she’s always bound I came out of their union They gave me my daddy’s name He said with god as his witness In these shackles she’ll remain So mama took in on the lonesome road We broke free of our chains We fought hunger, church, and demons Held our heads high and proclaimed God damn I am tired of living this way For the chance to meet the good Lord Another man on Judgment Day Tired broke and weary We came up on a man He said if you’ll take my name I will give you all I can So I grew up with a family Hidden right there in plain sight Til I found a road marked freedom And struck out on my own one night I traveled out beyond the land of cotton and good names But the road of all my questions Led me right back from where I came That’s where I met a man who promised He walk right by my side Asked me the life I wanted And if I would be his bride I said sir you seem a kind one But your questions still remain Who I am and where I come from Hell, I don’t even know my name God damn I am tired of living this way For the chance to meet the good Lord Another man on Judgment Day God damn I am tired of living for the day That I’ll meet my lord and savior Another man on Judgement Day

I don’t want to talk about it You wouldn’t understand I’m no hero I’m just a man You don’t know the things I’ve done If I told you would you run They say put the bottle down I know I’m hard to be around What’s wrong with a drink or two to clear my mind Without that look from you every time I just want to be alone Let the phone ring Or tell them I’m not home
I don’t want to talk about it You think I’ve missed my mark Bet you think God is afraid of the dark Well I’ve seen him there by my side He’s not the one running to hide You look surprised that I pray God’s the only one worth talking to these days And I don’t want to be alone I swore I wouldn’t bring this shit home But who are you to tell me what is right and wrong I don’t want to talk about it I don’t want to be alone Don’t want to hear you say you’re sorry What’s done is done Things that I can’t change I can’t take back And I can’t run from
9.
Mama took me every Sunday to the church and made me pray Daddy said I was a sinner and that God would make me pay But I, I will outrun em all I was born a man after the fall I’m a rambler and a gambler only play when stakes are high And I know every back road, boys always let me drive They know that I, I will outrun em all I was born a man after the fall I could have been the man mama wanted me to be But I listened to the preacher Lord had mercy, set me free He said you’re running with the devil son I see it in your eyes There’s only room for one of us Best you leave tonight He knows that I, I will outrun em all I was born a man after the fall They’ll hang me if they catch me, they don’t know the work I do To keep them safe at night from all those devils on the loose Oh I, I will outrun em all I was born a man after the fall
10.
Rise Above 03:17
Hold me down under the water Wash me clean and set me free I am my father’s daughter Oh god give me strength I feel the roll of the thunder Under my feet I can feel the storm a coming Gonna bring me to my knees And shatter into pieces Everything to which I cling Oh my body is a temple Sheltering a soul it can’t contain They say nothing lasts for ever My darling, my soul shall remain Fill me up with your laughter Your light your beauty and your love While I navigate the darkness And walk through hell to rise above
11.
Run 03:36
I am the last woman of my tongue There’s no one left where I come from I can navigate the seas The stars and waters speak to me And the gods are on the run, run, run There on the run, run, run, run There’s a halo around the moon I know the rain is coming soon There’s gonna be a flood Mother Earth looks to the sky I hear her whisper friend goodbye Let the water run Let it run, run, run, run Let it run, run, run, run, run I call out to the ones who came before Tell me what can I do They say daughter our stories cannot help you anymore No one can hear you We’ve lost the language of the land There’s no woman, child or man Who knows where they come from We are running out of time To save this planet, human kind
Where will you run Where will you run, run, run, run
When there’s no where left to run, run, run You better run, run, run, run, run
12.
Say a prayer to grandmother moon Shine a light on me You wax and wane just the same Teach me how to be A woman who walks the land With strength and wisdom I will stand Grandmother Moon I pray to thee Mother earth walks by my side I never feel alone Her mountains, valleys, rivers, streams are the places I call home She gives me everything I need For every pain a remedy The ground below and the air I breath Mother Earth takes care of me Grandfather Sun please do not hide away for long We pray for rain to fill the wide river But when the storms pass on
Paint a rainbow in the sky Part the clouds that block your light Grandfather Sun please do not hide I will carry the light So I can find my way And when at night I lay my head To creator I give thanks Oh creator I give thanks Oh creator I give thanks

about

The third full-length release for singer/songwriter/guitarist, Abigail Dowd, Beautiful Day was produced by Jason Richmond (Steep Canyon Rangers, Rising Appalachia, Dom Flemons) and recorded live with a stellar group of players. Written in a time of uncertainty while living with neighbors after a series of floods destroyed her home, the songs are full of resilience, hope and faith. It is a soulful album that takes the listener on a journey from resolve to surrender.
